July Recap

Aug 7, 2015
Oh wow I can't believe that it is already August!! The month of July flew by but that was okay with me since it ended up being a rough month. I don't even know where to begin to recap this crazy month!

I guess I'll start at the beginning, last you heard I was going to Ohio to visit family. That trip was pretty fun be definitely too short! I loved spending the 4th of July standing in Lake Erie watching the fireworks. There were days of relaxing and spending time with my cousins which I absolutely love doing.

Now I guess there is a little bit of backstory needed...My Poppa, mom's dad, has been paralyzed from the waist down for the last 14 years from a back surgery gone wrong. The surgeon cut something he wasn't supposed to cut and for the last 14 years he had no use of his legs but he still had all the burning pain. Through the years the pain has just gotten worse, he didn't want to be put on any type of narcotic because he was deathly afraid of becoming addicted to them. He was living with daily pain of an 8 or 9. The doctors were stumped and had no idea what to do and, they said they tried everything. When he has to be put in the hospital it is pure agony for him. They don't give him his medication on his routine and his pain gets out of control. He also likes to sit in a chair that reclines or his wheelchair because it helps ease the pain in his legs, but while in the hospital they make him lay in a bed and not move because he is deemed a fall risk.

He was admitted into the hospital from a self-inflicted gunshot wound the last day we were in Ohio. He just wanted the pain to be over and anything was better than going to the hospital. The bullet lodged itself into his orbital socket and didn't hit is brain at all. Praise the Lord! The next two weeks he spent in the hospital and the doctor's at the Trauma 1 hospital in Cleveland where he was were focused on his leg pain and not his trauma wound. The gunshot wound was taken care of in 4 days and was healing well.

Exactly 2 weeks after he was admitted my Poppa passed away. Since he was originally admitted into the hospital with a gunshot wound, the coroner had to do an autopsy. We have no idea what the cause of death is yet since he was doing well. We made a trip back to Ohio last week to lay Poppa to rest. He and Momma were married 53 years and they were so in love. I was so heartbroken to see her so heartbroken. He had a beautiful service and all the family was there to support Momma and to say goodbye. Nathan was able to come with me and we sang Amazing Grace at his funeral which he would have loved. We are sad that he is no longer with us but we can also rejoice in the fact that he is no longer with us. He is with Jesus, our loving Savior, with a new body. His legs have been restored and he is no longer in any pain at all. He gets to spend so much time with his grandson, my cousin, Tyler who passed away a few weeks before his first birthday 14 years ago. It is not the last time I will see Poppa, I rejoice in his love for Christ and his love for his family! I ask for your prayers for my family and for Momma as she is having a hard time with his passing as to be expected. She is rejoicing that he is no longer in pain but her heart is having a hard time with losing him.
